lnari Virkkala (b.1984) is a practicing architect focusing on the social impacts of built environment. She graduated from the Aalto University in Finland in 2012. Her Master's thesis, a research on refugee reception centers in Helsinki received two prizes and was exhibited in Tallinn Architecture Biennale in 2013.
Besides working for various Finnish architecture practices, lnari recently completed the construction works of an ecological youth center to Cambodia. The project was independently funded, managed and designed by the working group Komitu Architects. To share the knowledge gained in Cambodia, lnari has co-founded the South of North network for Nordic architects working on humanitarian architecture.
Currently she is working on a year-long research project "Social Structure", which has included three month working periods with Architecture for Humanity in San Francisco and Building Trust International in Cambodia. lnari wishes to join the board of ASF International to develop the internal and external communication of the organization, to achieve greater benefits on knowledge and resource sharing among global professionals of the built environment.
