ASF-International newest member Emergency and Development Architects (EDA), in partnership with Karavaniers and the Babu Chiri Sherpa Foundation, is planning to visit the Solukhumbu District to meet up with members and authorities of the 9 villages of the Taksindu VDC. Objectives of the mission include soil assessments and technical surveys on damaged community buildings, as well as the consultation of the population for the team to determine the urgent reconstruction needs.
Following this mission, EDA will offer sustainable architectural solutions for the reconstruction of a community building in one of the 9 targeted villages, according to priorities identified with its partners.
EDA will then head to Kathmandu for approximately 4 weeks, in order to strengthen its collaboration with ASF-International members and to complete the synthesis of the studies gathered in the 9 villages of the Taksindu VDC. At this stage, EDA will focus on creating new partnerships, on finding the necessary funds for the continuation of the project, on developing solutions for earthquake-resistant construction, on taking part in the proceedings and researches initiated by ASF-International, among which the development of a strategy for the production of a Best-Practices Manual and Construction illustrated Guide, adapted to the Nepalese population.
During the very last week of its mission, EDA will visit in the district of the Kabhrepalanchok, in the Khakare Pangu, Skihar Ambote and Mahankal VDCs, in order to assess the soil and carry technical surveys on damaged community buildings. This visit will allow the team to develop a second reconstruction project with EDA’s partners Collaboration Québec-Népal (CQN) and the Nepalese organization SPSWO.
