Simhika Rao is an Architect with over 10 years of experience in Architecture, Construction, and Project Management working across Scotland, Hong Kong, India and London for award winning practices. She joined ASF-UK in 2016 and has been a Senior Associate since 2022. Her work with ASF-UK involved leading community-led post earthquake reconstruction projects in Nepal, raising significant funds and coordinating with local stakeholders. She has also contributed to redeveloping methodologies that address climate resilience and a just transition to Net Zero in Edinburgh.
Simhika is the Co-Founder and Director of a research led architecture and construction studio which explores whole life carbon in rural domestic projects using modern methods of construction. She excels in strategic planning, operational management, and building successful partnerships within the construction industry. She is also a Special Study Project Tutor at the University of Strathclyde where she co-leads a research unit exploring the feasibility of constructing a low-carbon design on the Isle of Skye. The research explores insights into reducing embodied carbon, off-site manufacturing and circular economy.
Simhika joined the ASF-International Board in 2024 and leads the Training and Research Working Group. ASF-UK, a founding pillar of ASF-International, specialises in community-led processes, with a strong focus on learning and capacity building, as testified by our contribution to the Challenging Practice programme since 2012. She is passionate about deepening the connections between ASF-UK, ASF-International, and the broader network.
